COERR in the Traditional ELDERLY DAY Activities in Thai Villages

COERR Surin supported 3 local Sub-District Administrative Organizations (SAO) i.e. Ta Miang SAO in Phnom Dong Ruk District, Ta Toom SAO and Thep Raksa SAO in Sangkha District in launching the National Elderly Day for villagers especially the elders in 3 sub-districts on 4, 10 and 11 April, respectively. 3,022 elders from 43 villages of these three sub-districts joined the ceremony.

In addition, COERR also contributed for operating the Elderly Day activities at 6 villages of Ta Tum sub-district in Sangkha district during 9-16 April, 2013. 663 elders participated in this event.

The National Elderly Day activities were organized with the purpose of preserving the traditional ceremony which has continued for hundred years in all over Thailand and countries in the region. The activities included religious ceremony, medical check-up for elders, water blessing ceremony, elderly games, gift offerings and formal luncheon.

COERR Aranyaprathet
During 13-15 April, COERR Aranyaprathet and various partner organizations included local Public Health Stations, Sub-district Administration Organizations and Communities organized the Elderly Day event with activities relating to healthcare services rendered to elders and caretakers numbering to 1,865 persons. In addition other traditional activities for the elderly had been conducted such as water blessings and various games which brought fun and joy to the elders.
